You came to see me today. You told me about your lost-but-not-forgotten soul mate of forty four years. Your pain made me ache; it made me cry. Your loss overwhelming to you even after so many years, still acute enough to make you want to give up your own life just for the possibility of being where he is. You surprised me with your lucidity when talking about your love. I had imagined you were something other than this. You came to see me today and reminded me to hold on to every joy, let go of every frustration, to look for the happiness in this moment instead of sinking into the sameness of it all. You reminded me to cherish our time together, each unexpected twist, knowing that one day one of us will mourn this everyday moment and make it a monument. You came to see me today, and even though you made me cry – I’m glad you came.
Here’s to living with clarity, courage, compassion and confidence!
