Something I’ve found helpful as 2021 comes to a close is what Tim Ferris calls Past Year Review. In essence, you take a piece of paper, go through the calendar for this past year and put things into two columns – positive or negative.
For each week, jot down on the pad any people or activities or commitments that triggered peak positive or negative emotions for that month. Put them in their respective columns.Tim Ferris
The top 20% of each list – the things that most reliably created positive or negative peaks – are used to help guide Do & Don’t activities for the upcoming year. From the negative column create a “Don’t Do” list, from the positive column, create a “Schedule these things regularly in 2022” list.
I found this exercise quite clarifying. It is going to shape where I spend energy in the next year.
